Veterans Day in Burlington will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 11, at 10:30
a.m. with a ceremony honoring America’s veterans at the Veterans Terrace
    The guest speaker for the ceremony will be Bren Nimke, an Iraq War veteran
and former commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post(VFW) 2823 in
Burlington. Nimke will speak on the importance of Veterans Day and his
military experience and that of other Iraq War veterans, an often forgotten
generation of veterans.
    The ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Veterans Terrace Building, 589
Milwaukee Ave., Burlington, WI.  Also participating in the ceremony will be
the Burlington High School band and the Rifle Squad of the combined
veterans’ groups in Burlington. The Rifle Squad will fire a three-volley
honor salute to veterans at the conclusion of the ceremony.
    The Veterans Day event is hosted by the Disabled American Veterans (DAV),
Twin County Chapter 34 in Burlington. The events’ sponsors include VFW Post
2823 in Burlington, American Legion Post 79 in Burlington, and the Marine
Corps League in Burlington.

    Veterans Day is celebrated on Nov. 11th every year in the U.S., and was
originally called Armistice Day to mark the end of the fighting in World War
I on Nov. 11, 1918.
