Toy Museum: Try Tops & Games, See Exhibit & Enjoy a Live Show!
Wisconsin has a very unusual museum of tops, yo-yos and gyroscopes in historic downtown Burlington, Wisconsin. This is not a typical museum though, but rather a combination of a "tour, program, and workshop" with time to try tops and spinners. The fun is for adults, families and school age kids, ages 5-105. There is ageless fun, with many surprises for all.
Visitors even get to meet the Tops Expert and collector, who has worked on an MGM movie and on a TV show in Hollywood. But…the best part is that you get to spin and try tops!
The fun & fast tour/program includes
---40 different hands-on tops and optical illusions to spin plus challenges to try!
---the amazing exhibit of 2,000 antique & modern tops, yo-yos, gyroscopes!
---videos, and an I Spy Hunt
---plus a live show by the top collector and the Tops Expert from an MGM film.
Tops have been played with throughout all of history and all around the world, by both children and adults.
Everyone gets to try tops that defy physics, a 2-person challenge, top action games, a 2-handed spinner, shape changers, unique spinners and lots of old fashion fun. Modern spinners amaze all generations. “Adults always enjoy this as much as the kids, because we are all really just kids!” said Judith Schulz, the Top Collector and Museum Curator.
.The exhibit features both old and new: Cracker Jack tops; optical illusion tops; Carrom boards; 1000 yo-yos ranging from Duncan & Fli-Back to Smothers’ Brothers; top games from Wisconsin, Japan & Germany; Dreidels; Japanese tops; classic peg tops; funny advertising tops and more!
The visit concludes with a demonstration and show of a variety of things to see like antique tops, rare tops, modern visual surprises, a musical top, classic yo-yo tricks, and a re-enactment of a top scene from the movie My Summer Story, which is a sequel to the famous Christmas Story movie.
Senior tour groups, families, church groups, youth organizations, homeschooling associations, Scout troops, school groups, college cases, clubs, bus tours, scientists, and summer camps have visited since the founding of the museum in 1987.
