OPTICAL TOPS & ACTION GAMES TO TRY
MEET THE TOPS EXPERT FROM AN MGM MOVIE
Some places are for kids, some are for grown-ups, " but this museum is for the entire family, ages 4-104!” quipped Judith Schulz, Spinning Top & Yo-Yo Museum director. “Even grown-ups feel like kids again at this place!”
The last summer tours are on
Friday, Aug. 25, 2017 at 9:30 a.m.;
Friday, Sept. 1, 9:30 a.m.;
and Saturday, Sept 2, 9:30 a.m.
with tickets ordered in advance. The 2.5-hour fun and fast tour and program includes 40 different hands-on tops and top action games to try; videos; an I Spy hunt; the exhibit of 2,000 tops, yo-yos, and gyroscopes; plus a live show by the Tops Expert.
Hands-on time includes a pioneer style top, optical tops, a top that make you laugh, fast action games, a surprise toy, physics-defying spinners, and more. Visitors can even try spinning a top like one that Winston Churchill owned. The world-renowned exhibit includes Duncan Yo-Yos, yo-yo awards, a Racine Whitman spinning top game, antique games, antique Carrom boards, peg tops, memorabilia and tops from around the world.
The program is presented by Judith Schulz, the Top Lady, who has appeared on "Ripley’s Believe it or Not" on TV, "Discover Wisconsin," and PBS’ "Wild Chicago" show. The museum show includes top sights, history, and unusual facts; yo-yo tricks, and audience help in re-enacting a scene from the MGM movie that Schulz worked on. The Wisconsin Tourism Department has deemed it a “quirky destination,” and it is one of just 50 museums selected nationwide for the "Offbeat Museums" book.
Bus tours and large groups of 30-50 may schedule a visit on dates throughout the year, and group discounts are offered.
Admission is $15 per person, for all ages; and advance ticket orders are required due to the limited number of tickets and space. Children must be with an adult. The gift shop is open after the program with more than 400 different items.
The non-profit educational museum is at 533 Milwaukee Ave., downtown Burlington, Wisconsin. Parking is free.
